Silk Road Street

The “Silk Road” Street is a large-scale commercial and tourism district in Xi’an city, China. It locates at the historic site – West Market of Chang’an City in Tang dynasty (AD 618 – 907), southwestern part of Xi’an Ancient City Wall. The total planned area of the project is about 33 hectares.

ATL consultants created “comfortable, charming and memorable” as the lighting design theme for “Silk Road” street, a first-class commercial tourism block with exotic cultural characteristics. The India Square is an entrance area for visitors, standing a memorial pavilion with prominent Indian architectural style. The elephant relief on the stairs and the Kumarajiva statue on the square are the most important landscapes. The main purpose of the lighting is to cast the elephant relief and the image of Kumarajiva statue with surface illumination level, while the floodlights highlight the pillars and top cover of the memorial pavilion. Meanwhile, the floodlights in the lower part of the top cover provide a basic safety illumination. The building facades and railings on the square are illuminated by accent lighting, creating a special atmosphere, and a holistic view for visitors in the distance.
